The Township of Melancthon retains the services of a Planning Consultant, who, along with Township Staff are responsible for assisting and advising the public, government agencies and Township Council and Committee of Adjustment on matters related to the planning and general development of the Township through the land use planning process. The Vision Statement and Planning Objectives of the Township can be found in the Township’s New Official Plan. When planning applications to develop lands are received, staff will review and process the applications. A recommendation from the Planning Consultant is then provided to Committee of Adjustment for applications for consent and minor variances or to Council for plans of subdivision and amendments to the Official Plan and Zoning By-law.
The Planning Consultant is also responsible for reviewing building permit applications to ensure compliance with Township Zoning By-law 12-1979, as amended, while Township Staff are responsible for the administration of Township Zoning By-law 12-1979, as amended to provide information on permitted uses, zone regulations and general provisions.
