Job Opportunity: Operations Foreperson

Salary Range: $35.55 – $40.02 per hour commensurate with experience

Reporting to the Public Works Superintendent, the Operations Foreperson is a key leadership role responsible for the daily oversight of maintenance, construction, and winter operations within the Public Works department. This hands-on position involves operating and maintaining various types of equipment, supervising staff and contractors, and ensuring the effective and safe delivery of services.
Key Responsibilities:

Oversee and coordinate daily road maintenance, construction, and winter control operations

Operate and maintain a variety of public works equipment as needed

Provide direct, on-site supervision to staff and contractors

Issue and manage tenders, entrance permits, road occupancy permits, and road crossing permits

Contribute to the preparation of the annual budget for the public works department

Motivate and coach staff, and address performance issues as necessary

Respond to emergency callouts within 30 minutes
Qualifications:
-
Valid DZ driver’s license (AZ license preferred) with a clean driver’s abstract

Minimum of 5 years’ experience preferred in road construction and maintenance, heavy equipment operation, and fleet maintenance

Proven leadership and team management skills
-
Strong interpersonal, communication, and public relations abilities

Experience in a municipal roads or public works department

Working knowledge of Ontario Regulation 239/02 – Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways

Proficiency with computers and common office software including Word & Excel

Knowledge of applicable Health & Safety policies and procedures

This is a full-time position based on a 42.5-hour work week, with overtime as required
