Township of Melancthon Crest

The Melancthon Township Crest was designed in June, 1989 by Melancthon Township Resident, Marg McCarthy.

The SHAPE of the Melancthon Crest symbolizes our relationship to the Province of Ontario. The overlapping of the SUN and the MOON are taken directly from the Dufferin County Crest, thereby proclaiming our position as a municipality in Dufferin County. The three TREES depict the species that grow in our area – cedar, maple and spruce. The MAPLE LEAF of course refers to our Canadian Heritage.

A well known characteristic of Melancthon Township is the unique manner in which it was originally surveyed. This is symbolized by the ANGLED STRIPE across the middle of the Crest. It also indicates the two main Highways — #10 and #24 that cross through our Township. The RECTANGLES or DOTS on the stripe symbolize the small communities of Conover, Corbetton, Horning’s Mills, Masonville, Melancthon, Redickville, Riverview and Shrigley which are located in our Township.

The ANTIQUE PLOUGH represents our agricultural heritage while the POTATOES indicate one of the major products of our area. The GRAIN SHEVES on either side are symbols of growth and life.

The bright and cheerful red, blue, green and gold colours of our Crest symbolize the inviting and pleasant environment of Melancthon Township, a community of which we are all justly proud.
