Please take notice that the Council of the Township of Melancthon will be reviewing the Draft New Official Plan with its Planner on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Council is welcoming comments from the Public on the Draft New Official Plan and written comments are requested by Noon on Friday, March 12, 2010 so that they can be included in the Council Agenda Package. Please note that this is the not the Statutory Public Meeting required under the Planning Act. That meeting will be determined by Council and held at a later date.

Please take notice that the Council of the Corporation will be considering the 1st Draft of the 2010 Operating and Capital Budgets at its meeting to be held on March 4, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers - Municipal Office – 157101 Highway 10.

service and governance to the Citizens of Melancthon Township.

COUNCIL VACANCY (COUNCILLOR POSITION)

Due to the resignation of Councillor Beverley Kumprey on February 4, 2010, the Council, pursuant to the Municipal Act, 2001, Section 263(1), is requesting written applications for the position of Councillor and is accepting applications until Friday, February 26, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. to fill this vacancy. Qualifications:

resides in the Township of Melancthon or is the owner or tenant of land in the Township or the spouse of such owner or tenant;
is a Canadian Citizen
is at least 18 years old; and
is not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office

Applications may be mailed to 157101 Highway 10, R.R. # 6, Shelburne, Ontario, L0N 1S9 or delivered to the Municipal Office - 157101 Highway 10. or emailed to dholmes@melancthontownship.ca.

The Council of the Township of Melancthon will consider the below amendment to Section 14 (l) of Procedural By-law 8-2009 at its next meeting to be held on February 4, 2010.
The meeting starts at 9:00 a.m.

“Public Question Period - Council requests that questions be submitted ahead of the meeting (Friday 12 Noon prior to the meeting). Each person will be allowed to ask one question, either written or oral, during this time, and one question for clarification purposes only after the answer is given on the original question. Public Question Period is held at 10:30 a.m. for a day meeting and 7:00 p.m. for an evening meeting for a maximum of 1/2 hour. If less time is required and there are no further questions, the Mayor/Chair will declare Public Question Period to be closed and carry on with the regular business of the meeting, or if time permits, individuals will be allowed to ask an additional question. Also with time permitting, anyone wishing to make a comment may do so and Council may choose to respond to the comment if felt to be in the Public interest.”

The next Budget Committee of the Whole Meeting will be held
Tuesday, February 9, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the Council Chambers.

The Council of the Township of Melancthon has extended the time to receive written comments on the draft Residential Demolition Control By-law. Written comments are to be received by noon on Friday, January 29, 2010 so that they can be included in agenda package for the February 4th, 2010 Council meeting.

News Release

The Township of Melancthon’s Planning Consultant, G W (Jerry) Jorden will now be working out of the Municipal Office on the 4th Wednesday of every month. If you would like to speak with Mr. Jorden, you may do so by calling the office on that day or if you would like to speak to Mr. Jorden in person, you may do so by calling the office at any time during regular business hours at
519-925-5525 to book an appointment.

Please note that Mr. Jorden is the Township’s Planner and therefore will provide information on Township and Provincial planning documents and requirements but will not be providing planning consulting advice to residents for their own projects or issues.
